A slip hook is a hook used for lifting applications that has a safety latch. Rather than having an open throat like a grab hook, slip hooks have a safety latch to keep loads secured. To open the safety latch you simply press inward on the latch. The latch only goes one way so you don’t have to worry about chain or rope pressing from the inside and coming out.
Standard, or “Non-Cradle” Grab Hooks are becoming less common but are most often seen in tie-down applications. When using a Non-Cradle Grab Hook, most manufacturers require a reduction of 20% of the Working Load Limit (WLL).
The “cradle” or the “shouldered” style of grab hook is replacing the standard or “non-cradle” style grab hook due to its improved support of the engaged chain link. This additional support often means there is no reduction to the Working Load Limit (WLL) when used as designed.
